Justice says union resistance against reopening schools politically motivated

September 3rd, 2020 by WCBC Radio

As teachers unions across West Virginia continue to voice concern with the plan to see kids return to the classrooms next week, Governor Jim Justice fired back Wednesday, calling the criticisms “politically motivated”.  The West Virginia chapter of the American Federation of Teachers and the West Virginia School Service Personnel Association have issued statements opposing the return to in person learning- and they have been joined on several occasions by Ben Salango, the Democratic candidate for governor challenging Justice in November. During his regular COVID briefing Justice was asked about claims that some school systems may not have the resources in place to secure the necessary PPE equipment to safely start in class learning…

    Check out the contradictions from W.Va. in just the last couple of days. For example;
    Old tire collection is cancelled because of concerns that adults driving up to an outdoor facility will contract Covid-19.
    Morgantown bars are closed due to concerns that adults will contract Covid-19.
    Schools will open for in person instruction because, somehow, children are immune from contracting the same Covid-19 that W.Va. fears will infect adults. Justice even goes so far as to play the Democrat card and say that common sense and fear of infection are now politically motivated.

      Justive won’t lose. WV is about 75% Trump country. Kinda like it is around here except that MD will vote overwhelmingly blue.

    It’s obviously, at least in part, politically motivated. Trump threatened to cut off much needed funding to schools if they don’t reopen. It’s extortion.

    If reopening is bad to them and keeping everything closed then they are violating mandatory attendance law and as such those keep it closed members need to be punished with fines and being fired.

      No laws are being violated Joe. The local school boards have authority over the re-opening plans.
