Former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend has endorsed Congressman Chris Van Hollen for the senate seat being vacated next year by Barbara Mikulski.
Townsend had been considering running for the seat. She cited Van Hollen's plan to change the tax code to reward retirement savings as one of the reasons why she is endorsing him. She also noted his work to strengthen Social Security and protect Medicare.
So far, Maryland Rep. Donna Edwards has also announced for the Democratic nomination for Senate.
