Kelly and Buckel Differ on Area Prisons

One of the issues that revealed some sharp differences among the House of Delegates 1B candidates Monday night was the impact prisons have had on the community.  Democrat incumbent Kevin Kelly is being challenged for the seat by local attorney Jason Buckel.  During a two hour forum sponsored by the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce and WCBC Radio, Kelly said that the construction of the WCI and NBCI facilities near Cresaptown have provided a tremendous boost to the local economy- first via construction contracts, and since then by providing more than a thousand good paying jobs.  Buckel said that prisons should not be viewed as economic development for the count:





Kelly said there are a lot of misconceptions about the prisons, one of those being that they are attracting the wrong element to the area, and that leads to an increase in crime. Kelly says that is simply not the case…
