Keyser City Council Ready To Appoint New Member

December 12th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The Mineral Tribune reports a longtime citizen activist is set to trade her spot in the audience for a seat on the Keyser City Council. Karol Ashenfelter accepted an invitation Wednesday from newly appointed Mayor Ed Miller to fill his seat on the Council. Miller was named Mayor by his fellow Council members earlier this week when former Mayor Randy Amtower stepped down to become part-time city administrator. Amtower submitted a letter of resignation dated Dec. 7, with the resignation becoming effective immediately. Although the Council voted to approve Miller's recommendation for Ashenfelter to take his seat, the legality of the appointment was called into question when Council member Jennifer Junkins noted that the issue had not been advertised as part of the Council's formal agenda for yesterday's meeting. As a result, the Council set a special meeting for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, when Ashenfelter's appointment will be formally considered.
