KKK Plans On Returning To Area In September

Although they were greeted with a large crowd protesting their presence last summer, the Rebel Knights of the Ku Klux Klan is planning a return visit to Cumberland in September. Representatives of the group held a rally last year in front of the Court House on Washington Street and the greeting was less than enthusiastic with the overwhelming majority of the estimated 200 people in attendance protesting with signs and shouting at the Klan members to leave. Talbert Fike, vice president of the Rebel Knights KKK tells WCBC News that while there were protesters, privately there was strong support- and that is why a second visit has been scheduled. He said the Cumberland rally was originally scheduled for July, but was moved following the recent shooting tragedy in South Carolina…
