Land Swap Could Put A New Allegany HS At Vacated Braddock Campus

Allegany County Commissioners President Mike McKay tells WCBC News that he believes a proposed land swap involving the Western Maryland Health System, the city of Cumberland and the Board of Education would prove beneficial to all parties.  Health system officials say they will give the vacated Braddock Campus, the former Sacred Heart facility,  to the school board to be used as a new Allegany High School if the city will give the health system 40 acres near Constitution Park. The concept was the subject of discussion during this week’s city council meeting at which Allegany County Board of Education Superintendent David Cox made a brief presentation. While some believe the Braddock Campus could be better utilized to attract a major economic development project, McKay says there are any number of reasons as to why a new school should at the site should prove to be the better fit…
