Last Day of School for Students June 18th, Barring Further Adjustments

February 19th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

To date, Allegany County Public Schools have been closed due to inclement weather and/or extreme cold temperatures a total of fourteen days. The Maryland State Board of Education recently granted a waiver to reclaim Presidents’ Day, Monday February 17, 2014, as an instructional make-up day thus putting the last day of school for students on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, and the last day of school for teachers on Monday, June 23, 2014.

In addition to fourteen school closures this year, ACPS has also experienced eight two-hour delays, one regional two-hour delay, one regional closure, and one three-hour early dismissal.

The state board requires a minimum of 180 days of student instruction; however, State Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Lillian Lowery, may consider waivers from local school districts for the purposes of reducing the required number of student instructional days later this winter season.
