Time is running out to take advantage of back to school shopping as Maryland Tax-Free week ends TODAY (Saturday). Beginning last Sunday and running through today qualifying apparel and footwear $100 or less, per item, are exempt from the state sales tax. In addition, the first $40 of a backpack or book bag purchase is also tax-free. Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot says the event is coordinated each year for parents to benefit with their back to school shopping.
