LaVale Civic Improvement Association To Host County Officials Tonight

October 19th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Plans for the Holly Avenue Recreation Area, which Allegany County is currently reconstructing, will be overviewed by county officials at the LaVale Civic Improvement Association’s Monday, Oct. 19, meeting.

Commission President Bill Valentine and Planning Coordinator Dave Dorsey have accepted an invitation to attend the association’s next regular meeting, which this month begins at 7 p.m. in the LaVale Library.

The Holly Avenue project, which is supported by a Maryland Program Open Space grant for community parks and playgrounds, involves a regrading of the recreation area’s athletic fields and related improvements.

The site, which is used for youth athletics and community recreation, features a basketball court and playground equipment for community recreation as well as playing fields for organized sports teams.

The LaVale Civic Improvement Association has over the years made improvements at the county-owned facility, including the paving of the basketball court, installation of the playground equipment and construction of a storage shed.

While current upgrades and future plans for Holly Avenue are the primary focus of the meeting with county officials, LaVale residents may take the opportunity to address other matters of neighborhood and community interest.

LaVale Civic Improvement periodically hears from citizens of the unincorporated community on a variety of issues, such as public safety, zoning and abandoned, foreclosed and poorly maintained properties.

The association holds monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month in conjunction with the Braddock Run Watershed Association, another volunteer citizens group that also is concerned with the betterment of LaVale. These joint meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. in the library.
