Maryland State Senator Nancy Jacobs said this week she was glad to see former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky put behind bars for what may be the rest of his life- and more importantly she hopes the high profile case will build momentum for tougher laws in Maryland. Last year Jacobs, a republican who represents Cecil and Harford counties, tried to pass a bill last year that would put teeth into Maryland’s child abuse reporting laws by adding a misdemeanor penalty for not reporting, however it failed to get out of committee. She acknowledges that getting such a bill out of either Judicial Committee in Annapolis will be a challenge as both committees memberships are top heavy with criminal defense attorneys…
