Lawmakers Preparing to Amend Maryland Death Penalty

August 29th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

The death penalty in Maryland, led by Governor Martin O’Malley, has been abolished.  Supporters of  the bill to repeal Maryland’s death penalty turned back eight amendments this past General Assembly session  intended to create exceptions under which convicted killers could still be executed. The amendments rejected by the Senate and the House included exceptions for people who murder police officers and inmates who kill while in prison.  Delegate Leroy Myers , who is not seeking re-election, said that those amendments should be re-visited.
