Lawmakers Ready for PACE Reception

In what could easily be construed as a warm-up for this week’s annual Mountain Maryland PACE Legislative Reception – state lawmakers met in Annapolis last week with county commissioners from rural Maryland to discuss issues of mutual concern. By hosting the breakfast in Annapolis, officials from Western Maryland got some face time with lawmakers and helped debut their recently formed alliance, which will share strategies and lobbyists this session. The rural county leaders, including the Allegany County commissioners, believe their strength in the Maryland General Assembly will come by banding together on shared concerns, such as a governor-backed land-use plan. Already this session, officials from the partnership of Frederick, Allegany, Carroll and Washington counties are making headway by voicing their concerns to a wide range of legislators.
