Lawmakers To Consider Possible Death Penalty Repeal

Maryland lawmakers are expected to consider a possible death penalty repeal- and Senate President Mike Miller says the sooner, the better. Miller told reporters that he expects the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee to begin reviewing a death penalty repeal bill after the governor delivers his State of the State Address next month- and he repeated his promise to bring the bill to the Senate floor, if the governor has the votes to pass it. He does say that if lawmakers approve a repeal, it might be petition to referendum, and go before voters next year. Miller says that often times such lightning rod controversial issues can bog down the work of the legislature- that is something he would like to avoid by seeing the death penalty question settled early in session…
