Lawsuit Filed To Stop DREAM Act Vote

A lawsuit was filed Monday against the Maryland State Board of Elections to try to block next year's vote on the Maryland DREAM Act. The legislation which allows certain illegal immigrants to pay in-state, or the lowest tuition rates at community colleges and four year universities is set to go before voters in November of next year. Three groups- CASA of Maryland, the Service Employees International Union, and the Maryland State Education Association are the plaintiffs. Last month, the elections board said that opponents of the DREAM Act had submitted more than 108,000 valid signatures to get the issue on the ballot, that was more than twice the number needed. The ACLU of Maryland and CASA of Maryland had earlier stated that the online petitions used by opponents of the DREAM Act violated state elections law. The groups say they have seen "illegalities discovered in the signatures
