Lawyers Ironing Out Remaining Issues With Proposed Firefighters Contract

Firefighters Local 1715 did not meet or vote on a proposed contract with the City of Cumberland Monday- however despite some rumors to the contrary, this doesn’t necessarily mean the talks are in trouble.  President Ken McKenzie said that there are differences between the document the city has been working with, and the proposed agreement the fire fighters have been considering. McKenzie said that lawyers from both sides are trying to iron out the remaining issues, part of which deal with the effective date of the contract. City Administrator Jeff Rhodes tells WCBC News that while he can’t speak for the union, he is not aware of any snags that have come up since the final meeting with the federal mediator which resulted in a tentative deal….…
