Legislative Panel Meets on Police Accountability

The first meeting of the legislative panel looking at making recommendations on reforms and accountability for police departments was held this week. House and Senate leaders created the panel after the death of Freddie Gray and the riots that followed. Police officers who attended the meeting want to make sure that lawmakers are aware of the rights of police officers when it comes to administrative action. Senator Catherine Pugh, co-chair of the committee, said it's important to note that the committee is not talking just about the racial breakdown and diversity, but also about psychological training. The senator emphasized that the committee in its preliminary stages and won’t be ready to make any recommendations for some time…
