Lever Comments on Site of New Allegany School

Based on a recommendation from the consultant for the project, the Allegany County Board of Education in 2011 selected the former Sacred Heart Hospital campus as the site for the proposed new Allegany High School project- although there was much debate in the community. Some felt tearing down the current school and constructing the new Allegany there was the best path to take; while others felt the former Memorial Hospital site would be ideal. Locations in Cresaptown and Bel Air were also suggested. There have been more than a few critics of the choice of the site chosen, however Dr. David Lever, executive director of Maryland’s Interagency Committee on School Construction, said the site was more than adequately vetted…
