Liller Arrested Due to Vehicle Crash

At approximately 855am officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 68 westbound near the Maryland Avenue exit. Officers arrived on the scene finding the vehicle near the Patterson Avenue Bridge. The other vehicle involved in the crash fled from the scene.

A total of 5 patients were transported to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Tri-Towns EMS and Cumberland Fire Ambulance for non life threatening injuries. Officers located the suspect vehicle on Williams Street but the suspect fled the vehicle on foot. A positive identification was completed of the driver. Officers were able to locate Christian Leroy Liller standing outside of an East Second Street address.

Liller provided false information to the police upon them contacting him. Liller was placed under arrest for multiple traffic related offenses. Liller was later released from custody pending a trial in District Court. Christian Leroy Liller, age 38 of Cumberland, MD Charges: Driving suspended, Fail to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury, Fail to stop at accident involving property damage, Fail to stop at scene of accident involving attended vehicle damage, Failure of driver involved in accident to render reasonable assistance, Failure of vehicle driver to give insurance information, Knowingly giving false accident report information, Failure of driver in bodily injury accident to furnish license or ID, Driver using hands to use handheld telephone while motor vehicle is in motion, Possessing a suspended license, & Following vehicle too closely

    A dozen charges get one caught and released.

    By allowing him release they will be able to add a failure to appear charge when he is due in court. Then he will be rounded up during one of the 3CI sweeps that get so much publicity.
