After struggling financially for several years and dealing with growing state and federal regulations, the Board of Directors for the Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care has announced that it will sell its assets to the developers of the planned Cumberland Chase senior living facility near Rawlings. The announcement was made during Thursday’s meeting of the Allegany County Commissioners by Board members Ed Crossland and John Emerick. A press release provided details of the agreement with Cumberland Chase and outlined the reasons for the move. It was pointed out that the aging Lions Nursing Home facility on Haystack Mountain is no longer adequate to provide all of the necessary services- and that building a new structure would not be possible financially. Crossland said that after exploring a number of options it was determined by the board that the best course of action would be to work with the Cumberland Chase project- with the goal being to establish a state of the art long-term care and assisted living complex…

If it wasn’t for those pesky State and Federal regulations they would have every room full. In fact they would be stacking them up in the hallways like cordwood.

The story in the paper says that Cumberland Chase is off of Rt. 220 in Barton. Duh!!!!!

Isn’t the land under the Lions Center owned by the school system? It will be wonderful for the Lions Center to have a new up to date and code for the residents.
