April 10th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

National and regional news outlets have picked up the local police reports of a Cresaptown man being charged with murdering his infant child.

In the meantime, the story is also one that has touched many WCBC listeners who have reacted through our Facebook page. On this site, you can find the original police report on the incident, but we also caution that all charges are just that, allegations that will be adjudicated in a court of law.

On Saturday, Maryland State police homicide investigators arrested 22 year old Kyle Poindexter, and charged him with 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment in the death of his two month old daughter Avery Poindexter.

Avery had been taken to Western Maryland Health System Friday afternoon after Kyle Poindexter notified neighbors she had stopped breathing. Medical personnel had noticed bruising on the head and face of the baby, and contacted authorities.

The medical examiner ruled the cause of death as a head injury, and the manner of death was homicide.

Police say the mother of the child had left the baby with the father as she had to work yesterday morning.
