Little Orleans Legal Battle Comes To An End

It appears as though the battle of Little Orleans has come to an end. On Tuesday Maryland's highest court upheld an Allegany County Board of Education action that phased out its decade-old Washington County School Choice program because of funding cuts. Immediately after the board’s action in the summer of 2011, a Little Orleans citizens group headed by Linda Martin challenged the decision. The Maryland Court of Appeals issued a 40 page ruling according to Board Attorney Gary Hanna, upholding the circuit court ruling- and allowing the board’s action to stand. Hanna said it was a lengthy process that began at the local board level and advanced to the state’s highest court. …
