Local Beauty School Under Federal Investigation

November 21st, 2013 by WCBC Radio

WCBC'S Bryan Gowans reports from the scene that federal agents have closed the International Beauty School on North Centre Street in Cumberland.  There have been complaints about the business for several years, and now it appears that, at the very least, a federal probe is underway.  Agents on the scene could not comment on the reason for the closure.

According to TV3 out of Winchester, Virginia, where a sister school of IBS is located, representatives from the F.B.I. and from the U.S. Department of Education Office of the Inspector General shut down the school there shortly after 7:30am on Wednesday.  Police were reported to be executing a search warrant.

According to students interviewed by the station in Winchester, claims are being made the school has been embezzling grant money. The FBI would not confirm that information.

Calls to the Department of Education Office of the Inspector General by WCBC News were not returned.
