Local business leader passes

July 16th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

The area lost one of it’s most successful business owners on Sunday with the passing of Rick Michels. Michels and his wife Terry owned and operated the Queen City Creamery on Harrison Street in Cumberland since 2002. Moving to Maryland from Indiana in 1981- they endeavored to start their own old fashioned frozen custard business a decade later. Downtown Mall Manager Ed Mullaney said that Rick Michels, who battled cancer for that last few years, was an outstanding person and business leader. Michels donated his body to medical research, and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
