Local Chapter of NAACP Invites Students to Participate in Essay Contests

The Allegany County Branch #7007 of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is hosting an essay contest to promote diversity awareness throughout schools in the county. The top two winners of the competition will earn a $200 and $100 award, respectively, and have their winning submissions published in the 2017 Freedom Fund Dinner booklet. Winners will be announced at the February 14th Board of Education meeting. This year’s theme is “Building the Community that Empowers Us”. Students are asked to express their opinions, from a civil rights perspective, within the parameters of the theme. The contest is open to all ACPS high school students in grades 9-12. Essays are limited to 500-750 words.
