Local Officials Continue Initiative Against Synthetic Drugs

Allegany County’s war on synthetic drugs picked up momentum last week with a major drug bust and emergency legislation approved by the county commissioners banning those drugs. Sheriff Craig Robertson told the commissioners that he would dispatch deputies to a number of  area businesses immediately to inform those owners of the new law. The sheriff’s department and other area law enforcement officials — along with education, community leaders, and health officials — have been working together in support of the county’s plan banning certain synthetic drugs, which can cause medical and psychological problems including cardiac disturbances, agitation, delirium, paranoia and psychosis. Allegany County Health Officer Dr Sue Raver says given the relative newness of some of the substances being used- there are still a great many unknowns about their long term impacts and side effects…
