Local Officials Stepping Up Effort To Determine Course Of Action For Canal Place

After years of struggling with no definitive strategy in place for its future- local elected officials appear to be stepping up in an effort to once and for all determine the best course of action for the Canal Place Preservation Development Authority.  In just the past few months Canal Place has seen longtime chair Andy Vick resign; the Cumberland City Council debate the merits of providing additional funding for the program; and state lawmakers discussing the concept of a city-county operated Canal Place.  Allegany County Commissioner Mike McKay, a member of the authority board, says that there are plans at this point for representatives from the state, county and city to get together in the near future to discuss the situation and to map out a plan to move forward…
