Local Red Cross building for sale

August 19th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports a building that has housed the American Red Cross in Cumberland for more than 50 years is up for sale, according to Scott Salemme, regional chief executive officer of the agency's Chesapeake Region.

"We just recently put the building on the market and we hope to close on the sale in the weeks or months ahead," said Salemme.

The building, located at 400 Cumberland St., sits on .35 acres and is being listed for $299,000 by Carter & Roque Real Estate.

A blood drive that is held there will continue until the building is sold. It will then be relocated somewhere else in Cumberland, Salemme said. The public will be notified once the blood drive is relocated.

The building was built in 1965 and on Sept. 12 of that year it was dedicated in honor of Elizabeth Pearre, whose gift enabled the completion of the chapter house.
