A fundraiser to create a scholarship in memory of Mountain Ridge High student Averey Bridges- who tragically lost her life in a vehicle accident the week before Christmas will be held Saturday, January 9th. Averey's father, Craig Bridges, is a corporal within the Allegany County Sheriff's Office. Averey was a junior at Mountain Ridge High School where she gained notoriety in academics as well as sports. She was a pitcher on the softball team, where she earned first-team Cumberland Times-News All-Area honors her sophomore season. She also played volleyball. Local attorney George McKinley tells WCBC News that the fundraiser will be held at Applebees in Lavale on January 9th between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
