Local School Officials Make Pitch For State Funding For New Alco

Local school officials traveled to Annapolis on Wednesday for an audience with the governor, comptroller and treasurer making its pitch for state funding for a new Allegany High School. In November Allegany County School Superintendent David Cox and other county officials addressed the state’s Interagency Committee on School Construction (IAC) to fund the planning stages of the high school project- and yesterday the same presentation was made to the Maryland Board of Public Works. . The current Allegany High School, built in 1925, is the state’s oldest operating high school and needs to be replaced, feasibility studies have concluded.  There is stiff competition across the state for school construction projects- with about $250 million is in the budget at this point.  Dr Cox told WCBC News that he came away from the meeting with a positive feeling, saying that he believes the photos shown demonstrating the deteriorating condition of the current Allegany High had an impact…
