Local Teacher A Finalist For State Award

On Tuesday, September 03, 2013, administrators in the Allegany County Public School System paid a surprise visit to teacher Carol Garner’s classroom to announce that she had been selected as one of seven finalists in the Maryland State Teacher of the Year program.  Garner is currently an Environmental Science teacher at the Center for Career and Technical Education where she is a member of the Student Improvement Team, the Student Assistance Program, a Science Instructional Leader, a co-liaison of the Western Region Environmental Literacy Initiative and the Envirothon Advisor.            Mrs. Garner was selected as Allegany County’s Teacher of the Year representative at the school system’s annual banquet last school year.  She has been invited to attend the 23rd Annual Teacher of the Year Gala on October 11, 2013, at Martin’s West in Woodlawn, Maryland, where the 2014 Maryland State Teacher of the Year will be announced.
