Longtime Cumberland Councilman Passes Away

Longtime Cumberland Councilman Floyd “Pete” Elliott passed away Thursday following a lengthy illness. Elliot, 87, served as a member of city council for more than 20 years, and was a founding member of the Cumberland Neighborhood Housing Services (CNHS).  Much of his free time was spent as a champion of the neighborhoods the organization serves and has been an ever-present supporter for the many services and programs NHS offers.  It was just this past June that Elliot was honored with the lifetime achievement award from the Maryland Municipal League.  Elliot opted not to seek another term two years ago, stepping down primarily for health reasons. Former Cumberland Mayor Ed Athey served several years with Elliot and remembers him as a committed member of the community and a dedicated public servant…
