MACo Lists Major Priorities For Lawmaker Consideration

With the 2016 session of the Maryland General Assembly set to open next week, the Maryland Association of Counties has developed a list of four major priorities for lawmakers consideration. With the cost of school construction on the rise, MACo is pushing for more efficient ways to fund K-12 school construction and better serve the modern needs of students and teachers. Another major priority this year is restoring local Highway User Revenues. And this year, more police departments across the state are investing in body cameras. While MACo supports the technology, many counties are now facing practical and privacy challenges. Additionally, MACo will support initiatives that fight the heroin addition, reduce drug misuse and related crime, and reduce behavioral health and opioid use disorders. Allegany County Commissioner Bill Valentine says during the first year of the Hogan administration, it proved far easier for rural counties to have a voice in Annapolis- and he expects that to continue in 2016…
