Man Arrested On Drug And Assaulting Police Officer Charges After Chase

While on patrol in the Springdale St and Industrial Blvd. area an officer observed a vehicle being operated in a reckless manner.  The vehicle passed a tractor trailer along with two other vehicles while it was making a turn onto Virginia Ave.  The vehicle continued on Virginia Ave. at a high rate of speed passing six other vehicles on the wrong side of the road.  The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to stop the vehicle.  The vehicle continued into the neighborhood streets at a high rate of speed failing to stop at stop signs.  At this time the pursuit was stopped by the officer and several other officers responded to the neighborhood in an attempt to set up a perimeter.  The vehicle was located crashed into a wooded area off of E. Roberts St.  The officer observed baggies of crack, heroin and pills laying in plain view inside of the vehicle.  He also observed cash, cell phones and a drivers license all of these items were confiscated by the officer.  A short time later a witness called in and advised that they observed a subject running through yards jumping fences heading towards the E. Offutt St. area.  The ACSO was in the area assisting officers with attempting to locate the suspect.  A Sheriff’s Deputy observed a subject matching the description given covered in sweat standing between houses in the dark.  He approached the suspect who attempted to walk away from the Deputy.  He was contacted again at which time he punched the Deputy in the face and head several times.  He then grabbed the Deputy’s taser at which time he hit him in the face and head with it.  The suspect then threw the Deputy’s taser and tried to take his weapon from the holster.  The Deputy was able to get the suspect off and away from him.  About this time a second Deputy arrived on scene and was able to take the suspect into custody.  The Deputy was injured in the assault and was taken to WMRMC by CFD Ambulance for treatment of his injuries.  The suspect was taken to CPD under arrest where he requested medical treatment.  He was also taken by CFD Ambulance to WMRMC for treatment of his injuries.  Once treated the suspect was released and taken back to PH where he was charged and processed.  The suspect was identified as Anthony Samuel Johnson.  A total of 17 baggies of heroin, 4 baggies of crack and 5 Oxycodone pills along cash were located inside of the vehicle.

Charges:  Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment, Possession of heroin, Possession of Crack, Possession with Intent to Distribute heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute crack, Resisting Arrest, Disarming Law Enforcement Officer, Injury to Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of Oxycodone

Johnson was also charged with 11 different M/V Violations.

Johnson was taken for a Bond Hearing and held in the ACDC without Bond.
