Man Injured On Greene Street

At 3:45pm Friday an Off Duty Officer with the Cumberland Police Dept was in the area of Lee and Greene St when he was flagged down by several subjects. The officer responded to Greene St where he observed a male subject lying in the street with severe head trauma. The Officer radioed for assistance and the Cumberland Fire Dept to respond to the scene while he and several bystanders provided aid to the male subject until the arrival of the Cumberland Fire Dept. Investigation revealed that 78 year old Kenneth Rapson was operating an ice cream truck when he suddenly fell out of the vehicle and onto the ground. The vehicle continued to travel West on Greene St unoccupied where it struck a vehicle occupied by Gerald Goldstein, 62 years of age of Cumberland, and continued to travel until it came to a stop near Walnut Place. Goldstein was not injured as a result of the incident. Rapson was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of head injuries by the Cumberland Fire Dept Ambulance. No charges were filed in the incident. Greene St was closed for approximately thirty minutes.
