Man Threatens To Jump Off Bridge

On July 8th 2013 at 1242pm Officers responded to I-68 East at the Willowbrook Rd overpass in reference to a subject threatening to jump off the bridge. The call was received at the Allegany County Emergency Operations Center. Upon Officer's arrival they observed a 48 year old male subject seated on the outside off the guardrail threatening to jump. At this time members of the Allegany County Crisis Negotiation Team were contacted which consists of Officers from the Cumberland Police Dept and Allegany County Sheriff's Office. The team was able to safely talk the subject off the bridge without incident or injury. Traffic was temporarily diverted off of I-68 both East and West Bound at the Willowbrook Rd exits and allowed back on the on ramps. The subject was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for an Emergency Evaluation. The Cumberland Fire Department also responded to the scene and stood by during the incident.
