Marcellus Shale Commission Hears Public Comment

August 21st, 2012 by WCBC Radio

The Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission latest meeting was held last night at Garrett College in McHenry- with most of the session devoted to receiving public comment. The agenda included an explanation of Marcellus Shale horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing and summaries of the work of the Maryland Department of the Environment, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the commission. The Commission was appointed by Governor Martin O’Malley to assist state policymakers and regulators in determining whether and how gas production from Marcellus Shale in Maryland can be accomplished without unacceptable risks of adverse impacts to public health, safety, the environment and natural resources. The fact that a final report isn’t expected for another two years has been a point of great frustration for local elected officials hoping to see the region take advantage of the project vast new revenue stream that could result. State Senator George Edwards.
