Last night, U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Congressmen David Trone (D-Md.) and David McKinley (R-W.Va) wrote to Verso’s Interim CEO Leslie Lederer asking him to meet with the delegation before Luke paper mill operations cease on May 31, 2019. The members expressed their deep concern about the future of the mill, its workers, and the entire community.
“Our constituents deserve to know what Verso Corporation’s plans are for the future of the plant. The workers at Luke Mill, many of whom are represented by United Steelworkers, deserve to be treated fairly in negotiations with Verso Corporation. We believe Luke Mill employees deserve consideration that is similar to what Verso Corporation provided to recently departed President and CEO Chris DiSantis,” they wrote. “The surrounding communities in Maryland and West Virginia need answers regarding the continuation of services that are now at risk, including water supply and wastewater treatment. The communities that have kept Luke Mill running since 1888 deserve better than to be left in the lurch.”

It’s funny how the game changes depending on if you are a CEO or President and all the rest of the employees. POWER and GREED are destroying our American Dream. Same with our politians. We need to revamp our way of life and the rules we live by. Term Limits and providing the same medical plans as American use, and cutting all the free stuff to our Senators and Representatives is a great start. POWER CORRUPTS and then GREED BREEDS MORE GREED.
Our politicians should have done this request to meet on Day One of the closure notice.
VERSO doesn’t want another paper company to compete with and Our Politicians have to show some effort to find a solution. If this doesn’t happen till next week, odds are the future is very dim to say the least. Sorry Western Maryland and West Virginia. I’ll say a prayer daily for all affected, but that’s little consequence for the future of the area. Lets come together as a community and “BRAINSTORM” this and try to find a solution. Hey maybe we could grow more pot for CBD and THC THAT IS THE craze and hottest product out there in the business now.
