Maryland's Health Department is officially proposing that the first state-wide ban on the sale of baby bumper pads begin next year. According to a department release, the ban will begin in June 2013. An investigation began on the risks the pads pose to infants led the department to meet with a panel of health experts and reviewed public comments. A four-member task force recommended the state declare crib bumpers a hazard because they can suffocate or strangle babies.
