Track damage from a landslide believed to be mine-related was the focus of a meeting Thursday afternoon between Western Maryland Scenic Railroad officials and the Maryland Bureau of Mines. The landslide will keep trains from reaching their Frostburg destination until summer- as the erosion makes the tracks impassible. The Maryland Bureau of Mines visited the site recently to begin an investigation. Field testing of the area is expected to take up to 45 days. If the Bureau of Mines finds the landslide is indeed mine-related, emergency repairs are expected to take an additional 30 to 60 days. WMSRR board member Mike Brant says seeking compensation from the Bureau of Mines for the revenue lost as a result of the interrupted schedule is an option being explored.
