Maryland Congressman Says Economy Is Rebounding

October 3rd, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Department of Labor’s September Jobs Report announcing that the U.S. economy added 142,000 jobs in September:

"September's employment report is a reminder that while our economy has made great progress since the depths of the recession, dysfunction in Congress threatens to put the brakes on growth. For our economy to be running on all cylinders, we must end the sequester and make the kind of investments that boost American competitiveness. We must pass a long-term transportation funding bill to get workers back on the job fixing our nation's aging infrastructure. The Export-Import Bank must be renewed to help companies compete overseas.‎ And we must also honor the full faith and credit of the United states by raising the debt limit next month – failing to do so would have a catastrophic impact on our economy.

"Democrats are at the table waiting for Republicans to discuss a way forward on these issues. I hope they will join us and abandon their strategy of holding our economy hostage to their narrow ideological obsession with women's health."
