The Maryland Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities’ 13th Annual Maryland Health Equity Conference will be held Tuesday, December 13, at Martin’s West in Baltimore. It will feature speakers and panelists from Maryland’s General Assembly, national, state and local health partners, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene representatives, health care organizations and community-based groups.
This year’s theme is “Achieving Health Equity through Community Engagement and Innovative Health Care Delivery.” The purpose of the conference is to highlight community engagement programs and innovative strategies that have been implemented in Maryland to address the social determinants of health and to engage communities in preventive care within the current landscape of health care reform. Conference presentations will focus on the social determinants of health and equity; the Triple Aim of Health Equity; hospital global budgets and community engagement initiatives; models to increase health insurance enrollment and linkage to primary care; health enterprise zones; community health workers; and Maryland’s response to critical health epidemics.
The conference is sponsored by Minority Health and Health Disparities and is co-sponsored by the Behavioral Health Administration’s Office of Workforce Development and Training, as well as the University of Maryland’s School of Public Health, Maryland Center for Health Equity. Funding is provided by the Maryland Community-based Programs to Test and Cure Hepatitis C – a cooperative agreement between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Health and Mental Hygiene.
Dr. Camara Phyllis Jones, senior fellow at the Satcher Health Leadership Institute and Cardiovascular Research Institute at the Morehouse School of Medicine, will deliver the annual Shirley Nathan-Pulliam Health Equity Lecture at 8:30 a.m.
