Maryland Rural Counties Coalition Working To Stop Gun-Control Measure

The Maryland Rural Counties Coalition has taken a position to work toward stopping a gun-control measure already passed by the state Senate. Allegany County Commissioner Michael McKay, who chairs the coalition, testified in committee against the companion House bill, HB 294, Friday in Annapolis. McKay said that the coalition, which represents 10 counties, voted last week 9 1/2 to 1/2 to oppose the bill. Mckay says the proposed law “Demonizes owners of a massive number of commonplace weapons by banning the purchase or transfer of those weapons”. He adds that gun control measures in other parts of the nation have proven largely ineffective in combating violence…
