Maryland State Police Looking for Vehicle

August 8th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

On 08/07/2011 at approximately 9:42 p.m., units from MSP Hagerstown, along with Fire and Rescue Personnel from Mt. Aetna, Myersville and Community Rescue responded to westbound I-70 in the area of Crystal Falls Drive for a motor vehicle collision with injuries.  Investigation revealed that a 1999 Mercury Cougar, driven by Penny Marie Shifflett, 37, of Frederick Maryland, was traveling westbound when an unknown vehicle struck the rear of the Cougar, causing the Cougar to lose control, go off the right side of the roadway and overturn.  The striking vehicle, described by callers as a four door sedan,  possibly being either a Pontiac or similar GM product, failed to remain at the scene of the collision.  Paint transfer located during the investigation showed the striking vehicle to be light colored (white or silver).  The striking vehicle should have damage to the right front of the vehicle and have a broken headlight.

Shifflett was transported to Meritus Medical Center, along with three juvenile passengers, all with non-life threatening injuries.  An adult passenger in the Cougar, Erin Lorraine Benjamin, 28, of Harrisburg, PA, was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma by MSP Helicopter with serious injuries.

Anyone having further information is asked to contact MSP Hagerstown Barrack.  TFC W. Talbert is investigating.
