Maryland State Police To Move Gun Licensing Process Online

December 10th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Maryland State Police will conduct background checks for those purchasing guns online instead of with paper forms filled out by hand starting Jan. 1, the agency announced Wednesday.

Under the current system, those who sought to buy a gun from a dealer would complete a form by hand, then send it to a dealer or a State Police barrack, which then was mailed or faxed to the Maryland State Police Licensing Division, which conducts background checks.

With the new system, those applying for a gun will conduct the entire process online through the Maryland State Police Licensing Portal, which is compatible with desktop computers, tablets and mobile phones.

The $10 application fee will remain the same, and it is payable by debit or credit card only, State Police said.
