Maryland Unemployment Rate Above National Rate

According to numbers released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics earlier this month, Maryland’s unemployment rate rose above the national average for the first time since 1998. The national average is 6.1% and Maryland’s unemployment rate climbed to 6.4 % in August. Coupled with last week’s bad economic forecast that caused the state to reduce revenue estimates by $405 million, there is not a positive diagnosis for Maryland’s fiscal health. Governor Martin O’Malley said that while the unemployment numbers are on the rise, there is a great deal to be positive about when it comes to Maryland’s economy…
