According to numbers released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics earlier this month, Maryland’s unemployment rate rose above the national average for the first time since 1998. The national average is 6.1% and Maryland’s unemployment rate climbed to 6.4 % in August. Coupled with last week’s bad economic forecast that caused the state to reduce revenue estimates by $405 million, there is not a positive diagnosis for Maryland’s fiscal health.
