Maryland Unemployment Rate Increases

Maryland's unemployment rate has inched up a tenth of a percent to 6.7% after the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the state lost some 6000 jobs in April. The loss of jobs is being blamed on seasonal slowdown after a record-setting first quarter. The government concludes that jobs data continues to be adjusted to account for an unseasonably warm winter. In fact March's preliminary gain of 1500 jobs was revised downward to a loss of 600 jobs. April's losses were spread across a number of industries; however, most declines were small
