When Maryland lawmakers wrapped up the 2013 General Assembly session in April, they left feeling relatively positive about the state’s fiscal picture- having worked hard to wipe out Maryland’s long-running structural deficit in the next budget. However, following a meeting in Annapolis of the House Appropriations Committee- Delegate Wendell Beitzel reports that unfortunately the deficit remains- and is growing. This month’s fiscal prediction by the Department of Legislative Services projects a structural imbalance by next June 30 of over half a billion dollars- and expected to double the following year. ..
