Maryland Governor Larry Hogan Thursday announced that all public schools will close for two weeks starting next Monday, March 16 and continuing through Friday, March 27. Additionally all gatherings of more than 250 people have been banned. All nonessential state employees who can work from home are being directed to do so.
Hogan detailed the first documentation a spreading of COVID-19. Maryland has recorded 12 positive tests. Two patients remain hospitalized, while three are out of quarantine.
The governor said he has raised the Maryland Emergency Management Agency to its highest activation level and has activated a portion of the National Guard, which makes them available for deployment.
Hogan has ordered nonessential state employees approved to telework to start working from home. Public access to state buildings will be restricted.
All state-issued licenses and permits due to expire while Maryland is under a state of emergency will remain valid until 30 days after the state of emergency is over.
Hogan directed hospitals to limit visitors to one per patient, as many hospitals have already done. He suspended visitor access to all state prisons.
Hogan said he is delegating oversight of nonessential government functions to Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford.
Again, all public schools across the State will be closed from March 16th to March 27th. Prisons are to restrict visitors.
WCBC has learned from Bishop Walsh Principal, Dr. Ray Kiddy, BW will be following the governor's directive and closing for the same dates as the public schools.

The State of Maryland has directed all public school closures starting Monday, March 16th thru Friday, March 27th. School will be open tomorrow and more information will be forth coming as to what this will impact for the school and daycare. Thank you for your patience and we will be getting more information out tomorrow.
