Maynard Steps Down From His Post

After more than six years on the job, Gary Maynard is stepping down as Maryland’s Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections. But he does so having failed to address all of the concerns that have been raised this year in regards to correctional officer safety issues at the North Branch Correctional Institution and WCI in Cresaptown. In a news release this week  announcing the resignation,  Governor Martin O'Malley credited Maynard with closing the House of Correction in Jessup in just 12 days, shortly after taking the job in 2007. After outcries for changes in leadership in the department from union heads, Maynard came to Cumberland for a town hall meeting with officers and staff from NBCI and WCI to address those concerns. He pledged at the time to work together with the union to find solutions…
