The hope is that by the end of the month, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council will have recommendations from an economic development steering committee following through on proposals developed by an outside consulting firm. Its far from the first economic development study that has been conducted for the city, county or region- but there does appear to be a greater sense of urgency to actually follow through and implement the suggestions than in years past. City Administrator Jeff Rhodes said that he believes the most significant aspect of this report- is that it was conducted completely independent of the city’s elected officials:
